A pattern that has outlasted trends

Herringbone has been laid in European homes for centuries and moves comfortably between traditional and contemporary interiors. In a period home it reads as appropriate and considered; in a modern build it adds texture and interest to rooms that might otherwise feel flat.

The pattern without the timber upkeep

Herringbone traditionally meant solid parquet, along with the sanding, sealing and moisture sensitivity that comes with it. Our hybrid version keeps the pattern and the warm oak grain while sitting on a waterproof core, so the floor tolerates spills and humidity without gapping, cupping or lifting at the joints.

Planning a herringbone floor

Herringbone uses shorter boards than straight lay and involves more cuts, so allow additional material for waste and expect a longer installation. The pattern also rewards careful setting out, since the centre line determines how the floor meets walls and doorways across the whole room.

Choosing a tone

Pattern and colour interact more in herringbone than in straight lay. Lighter oaks let the geometry read clearly without dominating a room, while deeper tones make the pattern more pronounced and better suit larger spaces.
